The moment we’ve all been waiting for is here! Floyd Mayweather Jr. will finally square it off against someone that’s actually a threat, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Mayweather Jr. announced on Twitter last night that he will fight Canelo Alvarez on September 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, on Showtime pay-per-view.
According to Dan Rafael the fight will have a maximum weight of 152 pounds, both fighters agreed, so our fantasy will now become a reality. If someone ever called Floyd a ducker now it’s the time to take it back, fighting Saul won’t be a walk in the park, in fact, several boxing experts are saying that he could actually lose this fight. It is a catchweight bout, and the WBC and WBA junior middleweight titles will be on the line, a great moment for sports history indeed.
Mayweather’s record is 44-0, with 26 KO’s, Alvarez stands at 42-0-1, with 30 KO’s, Alvarez is a lot younger, some say that he is hungrier, but I really doubt it, after all, Mayweather hasn’t stayed at the top of the sport for such a long time for lack of desire.
Today is a great day for boxing fans and we should all be celebrating.
